Artist Statement

rockwell_bw.jpg

I grew up in Michigan where the Great Lakes conjured storms of snow, lightening, hail, yellow tornado skies and rays of sunshine in short spans of time. Witnessing the impact of this unique weather on nature informs my work. As an artist, I act as weather maker, adding gravity, water, heat and air to my toolkit. Understanding the human connection to nature, as we are made of the same elements, I introduce the body and landscape as one. When I am creating on a level beyond formal design and craft decisions, I experience a dialogue between my material-based process and an internal journal. This is what makes me an artist.
