Spring Thaw 2002
Ice, molasses, sugar, rough cut wood, fish nets, pulleys, rope
A temporal installation of 6 100-lb ice balls encasing molasses, oozing through air pockets formed in the freezing process, drip onto mounds of sugar below. The abstract landscape was an active demonstration of geology forming rivers, erosion and sedimentary layers. The action was also a metaphor of sugar cane, separated into molasses and refined white sugar, attempting to reunite to become one or at least something new together again.
